Over the last 12 years Mr. Ruiz has focused his trial practice in the areas of complex civil litigation, including the representation of serious accident victims, false arrests and police brutality, as well as employees who were not payed overtime wages or that were discriminated against.
He began his legal career with a boutique litigation firm in Coral Gables, Florida, where he litigated professional malpractice cases and defended Accountants, Attorneys, Architects, Directors and Officers, Engineers and General Contractors. Mr. Ruiz then went to work at a prestigious nationwide defense law firm in Miami, Florida, where he handled and went to trial on various types of defense cases, including severe traumatic brain injury, automobile and trucking accidents, bad faith, premises liability, negligent security, medical malpractice, labor and employment and other complex third party liability matters.
Mr. Ruiz has also successfully represented employers and employees in state and federal court litigation and appeals, and before the EEOC and other administrative agencies, including claims alleging employment discrimination on the basis of physical and mental disabilities (Americans with Disabilities Act), age (Age Discrimination in Employment Act), gender (including sexual harassment), pregnancy, religious beliefs, race, and national origin (Title VII and the Florida Civil Rights Act); alleging violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act (minimum wage and overtime), and the Equal Pay Act (gender-based wage discrimination).
Mr. Ruiz graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He then obtained his Juris Doctorate from The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, where he also served as the Vice President of the Student Bar Association and the Latino/a Student Bar Association.
Mr. Ruiz is a member of the Florida Bar, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, and is admitted to practice in all Florida State Courts.
Mr. Ruiz gives back to the community by providing his services Pro Bono to low-income families through the Legal Aid Society of Miami Dade and by mentoring Latino/a law students.
His goal is to provide all his clients with honest and practical advice in order to deliver excellent results.
